5 Most Common Hair Removal Options for Men & Women

Some men and most women have hair growth in undesired areas of the body. Unwanted hair growth in areas such as the face, chin, arm pits, arms, legs and back, can be a source of tension for some and problematic for others. Fortunately, today, removing unwanted hair can be easy, quick and satisfying. There are many options for hair removal such as:

  1. Depilatory Cream. Cream is applied over the desired area and after waiting the instructed time period, it is rinsed away with cool water. Depilatory creams remove hair from the skin for approximately 2-6 days. This technique dissolves hair below the skin surface. Tip: Do not use on sensitive areas. Cons: skin irritation; burns; strong odors & chemicals.

  2. Threading. Threading is done with two pieces of cotton or polyester thread that are doubled and then twisted together. As the twisted thread is rolled together, unwanted hair is extracted from the skin. This method plucks hair all the way down at the follicle level, deep inside the hair shaft. Cons: expensive over time; damage to the hair follicle; swollen at extraction site; ingrown hair.

  3. Laser. Laser hair removal works by targeting the dark pigment in your hair follicles and stunting the growth mechanism with a laser instead of actually uprooting hairs. Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments and may or may not work. Laser hair removal is the least painful treatment method. Cons: most expensive method; not ideal for certain darker skin tones.

  4. Waxing. Waxing is completed with warmed wax and strips. Wax is applied to the desired area, a cloth strip is applied over the wax and then the strip is quickly pulled off the skin, removing the hair at the same time. Waxing is a very effective way to remove unwanted hair from a variety of places on the body. Waxing can last a few weeks to over a month depending of course, on how fast your hair grows. Waxing removes hair from deep within the hair follicle. Waxing Cons: costly over time; painful and uncomfortable.

  5. Shaving. Shaving is performed by cutting the unwanted hair off the skin with a cutting blade or razor. Shaving is performed on wet or dry skin. It can be performed with a manual razor or electric razor. Shaving is the most simple, common and inexpensive method used to remove undesired hair. Shaving may last for hours to a couple of days depending on what cycle of growth your how hair is in. Tip: Use new blades, as used ones are more likely to cut your skin and cause bleeding. Shaving Cons: cuts & abrasions; rapid regrow the of hair.
